Description: This all day pre conference session will examine the basics of setting up a globally networked classroom. We will concentrate on three areas: pedagogy, tools and curriculum. We will spend time looking at and trying out some of the latest tools that teachers can use in their classrooms as well as discussing the changes in pedagogy that support these tools. Finally, we will look at how curriculum fits in to this puzzle as well, driving the learning that happens in a classroom.

9:00 - 9:30: In room experts Four Stages of Technology Use: Substitution: the computer substitutes for another technological tool, without a significant change in the tool's function. Augmentation: the computer replaces another technological tool, with significant functionality increase. Modification: the computer allows for the redesign of significant portions of a task to be executed. Redefinition: the computer allows for the creation of new tasks, inconceivable without the computer.

Pedagogy:

• I am most interested in finding out how to connect with other classes in meaningful ways.
• I would like to focus on how to set up authentic connections that match curriculum and have specific student learning outcomes.
• I want to leave this day with strategies for finding other classrooms who would like to connect and work with our students. I second this.
  
• The one thing is advice on how to tie all of this stuff together meaningfully. I am great with ideas and experimentation but rubbish at consolidation.
