Do we teach these program in school or do we put our heads in the sand. My personal opinion is that we can't stop/block students from going to the sites they like. Lets educate them on how to use these sites and possibly find some educational value to the teaching.

Facebook started by a 23 year old. Created for only university students at Harvard Law. Over 90 million active members. Great article in Time magazine about Facebook.
Educate our students on how to use and maintain sites like Facebook/Myspace.
Learn how to use such programs with educational value.

YouTube is the second most searched site on the web. Kids are going to youtube. Youtube postings are of higher quality. Why? peer to peer accountability.

Facebook could take the learning opportunity of the class to another level.
Collabrative note taking through our wiki could take the place of Notetaker. This type of note taking seems to be to be more beneficial to students.

We currently use many forms of communication resources in our district including wikis, blogs and websites. I have seen a way we can use and teach facebook in our district.
Currently our 6th grade social study classes are using Skype
